Love Them Aces

What is better than holding pocket Aces in last position?

Getting the original raiser with pocket Kings to fold to my raise AND getting a calling station to call.

That is exactly what happened the other night at MotorCity Casino.

The first player to act makes it $150 to go. A player that saw every flop at any cost for two hours (he got broke four times and had to rebuy) called.

I am on the button with A-A and raise to $500.

And we wait.

And wait.

Finally, the original raiser folds. The calling station … calls.

The flop comes A-5-9 rainbow.

My opponent check-calls my bet of $500.

I put him on some kind of gutshot straight draw. A hand like 8-6 or 7-6 is certainly within his range.

Turn is a Queen.

My opponent checks.

I put him all-in.

He folds and tells me he had a straight draw. The way he said it was like he was pleading to see another card but did not want to go bust again.

I show the set of Aces and take it down.

The original raiser pulls me aside and tells me he had Kings and did not feel comfortable seeing a flop at that price.

Having been drawn out by Kings against Aces too many times before, I was grateful for the pot I won.

Alltop. How the hell did that happen?
